- Backround...
I first became fascinated with HTML and the possibilities the Web offered in 1995 and have been (re)building and managing commercial Web sites since 1997. By today's Web standards, eleven years' experience makes me something of a dinosaur and I've probably tried and discarded more "New" and "Cool" Web applications than most current developers have even heard of. But, basically, I'm a "working stiff" who excels at performing the mundane or technical tasks that most Web designers and site owners hate.

OJT: Acxiom Corporation
This is where I "cut my teeth" on web development/maintenance as the out-source webmaster from 2/1997 to 2/2001. When I took over the company's original site, it was text-only and consisted of just under 100 pages. Over the next four years, the site grew to over 3,000 pages, during which time I updated and maintained the entire site and consulted with two different advertising agencies to ensure a smooth transition through three annual redesigns.
Note the embedded Flash animation in the home page. It isn't a part of the navigation scheme and the information it displays could have been provided in simple text or a static image in a fraction of the time that it took the animation to play through. The only thing it really does is waste the visitor's time if he/she bothers to watch the entire sequence.

Current Clients:
The "slide show" at right displays screen-shots of commercial sites I currently maintain. I no longer provide links to these sites because, shortly after I originally posted them, the owners began receiving emails containing design and web-related product offers. However, if you're a potential client and wish to confirm my relationship with these companies, I will be happy to provide contact info.
For a ready example of my capabilities, see my personal interest site below.
The slide show is accomplished by a simple JavaScriptjust click the arrows to view the next or previous screen-shot.

Personal Site: The BrownWater Navy My hobby is researching the history of Naval operations during the American Civil War and this site is a collection of the information gathered. While I am currently reworking the entire site, it utilizes the elements and functionalities I have found to be most useful in presenting and maintaining a large number of pages as follows:
- Scalability: In order fully utilize "screen space" the site is coded to occupy the full width of the screen on monitors set to any resoultion of 800 x 600 pixels or larger, without causing annoying "side-scroll." This practice applied to commercial sites allows the presentation of as much info as possible when a visitor first arrives at the siteregardless of his/her monitor settings.
- Continuity/Uniformity: Font face, size & color (even within table cells) is regulated by a single Style Sheet, allowing me to change these settings on all pages by editing only one file.
- JavaScript Includes: The images and data shown in the left-hand column (commonly called the "Nav Column") are fed by a single JavaScript file. This provides the ability to add, change or delete any or all data in this column on all pages (or pages within a section) by editing only one file.
- JavaScript Navigation: Because the large volume of information presented tends to make many pages rather long, I have used a "scrolling" navigation menu which follows the reader down the page. This allows the reader to go to the top of the page or jump to the main page of any section with a single mouse-click. It also allows me to add, change or delete a link on all pages in a section by editing only one JavaScript file.
- "MouseOver" Information Boxes and "OnClick" Pop-ups: Again, because of the large amounts of info and frequency of period or nautical terms, I use these utilities to conveniently provide attitional relevant information or definitions without lengthening the current page.
- Flash Animations: There aren't any because there's very little that Flash can do (except annoy my visitors) that I can't do better and faster with HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
